Transition Program
4 week commitment for a 40 hours total
All hours must be completed within the 4 weeks

Wise Learning offers a Transition Program which is a one-on-one transition from High School to College. Many students are undecided about the year after high school and our Transition Program can provide a fully customized curriculum based on the student’s needs in order to help them reach their goals. A minimum of 10 hours per week is required in order to fill in skill holes from High School, explore areas of interest, and preteach information to foster independence through college.

Also available in our Transition Program is support services for part time college students. Many students start off their college career by taking one or two college courses at a time at a local community college. We use the curriculum from their college courses to help them with task completion, executive function, study skills, time management, test taking, content, and more. In addition, we custom design the best skills for each student in order to help them reach their goals and ensure success throughout their college career. Our goal for each student is to prepare them for a full time college program at the appropriate college of their choice.

Our Transition Program supports students, fosters independence, fills in any foundation skill holes that may exist, and helps them reach their future goals for a lifetime of learning that lasts well beyond college. All curriculum is custom designed for each student based on their
individual needs. The first year after high school is an extremely important year and we can help make it a success!

Teen Social Group

The purpose of this group is to help teens learn skills and strategies to manage anxiety or discomfort in social situations and improve social interaction skills. Group members will have an opportunity to talk about their anxiety/discomfort in social situations. They will learn ways to increase their confidence using CBT based strategies such as recognizing and challenging distorted thinking or increasing positive self-talk. Confidence will also be built through positive interaction with others in the group. Children will learn and practice important social skills and have an opportunity to role play using these skills in session.

Social Skills Group (k-6)

Children who do not have adequate social skills are put at risk for isolation from peers and family, emotional and behavioral problems, and academic underachievement. Research evidence has demonstrated the effectiveness of small, skill-based, interactional groups in improving children’s difficulties with social communication and interaction.

  • Small groups of 4-6 students
  • Students grouped based on age and specific needs
  • Groups run by a licensed social worker
  • Initial screening assessment
  • Individualized goals for each child
  • Progress notes to track your child’s improvement
  • Topics covered will be based on the specific needs of each group. However, some topics you can expect include: Greetings and conversation skills, eye contact, identification of feelings, friendship skills, manners, resolving conflict, coping with anger and anxiety

Wise Owl Early Learners Program

Our early learners program is designed for children in preschool through first grade. This program incorporates fun and engaging learning activities and games to help your child master basic skills and beyond. This is a great learning experience for children who need some extra assistance, as well as for children who are ahead. Depending on your child’s age and skill level, we can design a unique program to focus on a multitude of different topics. For the youngest children, this may include numbers, letters, days of the week, months, etc. At the more advanced level we can focus on sight word recognition, early reading comprehension and reading fluency, basic math skills, and more!

Coping with Anxiety Program (One on one)
This program is designed for children and adolescents who are experiencing anxiety that is interfering with their academic achievement or interpersonal relationships. Anxiety comes in many forms including, but not limited to school-based anxiety, test anxiety, social anxiety, and general anxiety. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 8% of teens ages 13-18 have an anxiety disorder, with symptoms commonly emerging around age 6. Anxiety can impair many areas of the child’s life if left untreated. In our Coping with Anxiety Program your child will work one-on-one with our social worker who is trained and experienced in working with individuals struggling with anxiety.

What you can expect:

  • Licensed social worker
  • 1 hour session once per week
  • Use of evidenced-based practices
  • Cognitive-behavioral based curriculum tailored to your child’s specific needs
  • Child will learn about what “anxiety” is
  • Child will learn to better identify anxiety triggers and signs of anxious feelings
  • Child will learn relaxation strategies
  • Child will learn to identify and challenge negative self-talk
  • Child will learn various coping skills to manage anxiety
  • Child will practice gradual exposure to anxiety-provoking scenarios if needed

Online Sessions

Finally, one-on-one sessions with a certified teacher from the comfort of your own home! Our online sessions are great for families with very tight schedules, parents that work, and/or those who live too far to drive to one of our locations.

For each student that signs up for online sessions, we create a Google Drive for that student. The Google Drive allows the student to “share” documents with our teachers. This way we can watch our students complete their work from our own computers while video chatting with them.
